The Rosette Nebula

Posted on Tue 21 March 2023 in astro

The Rosette Nebula is about 5500 light years from us and is about 65 light years across. It can be found in the consellation Monoceros. I spent the better part of two nights in February aquiring the data for this image. It ended up being about 4 hours 20 mins of total exposure. Here's the equipment list used:

  • Losmandy GM811G Mount
  • Stellarvue SV70T Telescope with a 0.8 flattener/reducer
  • QHY183C Camera
  • ASI120MM Guide Camera and 60mm generic guide scope
  • StellarmateOS on a home built Raspberry Pi

Check out the Herchel Telescope page with loads of interesting information on this star nursery.
